The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intensive acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, as well as deformation and torsional movement of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
