The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When driving through corners, the transfer of mass can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
