The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, deformation and twisting of the body shell, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the vehicle chassis in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
