The vehicle’s chassis is the part that experiences the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In certain situations, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant twisting and bending of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
