The vehicle’s chassis or bodywork is exposed to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight when driving quickly through corners, braking hard or accelerating.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more load than the other. This results in substantial deformation and body flex, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Body deformation and flex when cornering can cause unwanted driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
