The car’s chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to 3 times greater force than the other. This causes significant chassis flex or body deformation, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
