The car chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. The result is significant deformation and flexing of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
