The car’s chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is especially noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When weight is transferred in a corner, one side of the vehicle can be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant chassis flex, or deformation and torsional twisting of the body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
