The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, hard braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant flexing and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis flexing and twisting when cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
