The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. It is particularly stressed by the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes considerable chassis flexing or deformation and torsional twisting of the bodywork, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
