The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can result in significant bending and twisting of the chassis or deformation of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
