The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the vehicle body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In certain cases, the transfer of mass while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to loads up to three times greater than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
