The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads as a result of the driver’s input. This is particularly evident when the vehicle’s body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. The result is significant chassis flex, deformation and body twist, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
