The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In certain situations, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant chassis flexing, or deformation and torsion of the bodywork, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
