The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in increased twisting and bending of the chassis or bodywork, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis twisting while driving through a corner can also cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
