In some cases, weight transfer while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. The result is significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
