The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This results in greater chassis flex and body deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
