The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is especially true due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting when driving through bends can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
