The vehicle chassis is subjected to significant loads while driving, particularly due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of weight can cause forces on one side of the vehicle to be up to three times greater than on the other side. This causes the chassis to twist and the body to deform, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can lead to poorer driving characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
