The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass through a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can result in significant chassis twisting, body deformation and torsional twists, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
