The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, hard braking or decisive acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant deformation and flexing of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
