The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes considerable chassis flex or deformation and torsional twisting of the bodywork, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while driving through corners can cause undesirable driving characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
