The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. These loads are caused primarily by the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When driving through a corner, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This can cause significant twisting and bending of the chassis or body, resulting in loss of tyre grip.
Twisting and deformation of the chassis when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
