The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly true when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.

When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to 3 times more force than the other. This can result in significant bending and torsional deformation of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.

Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
