The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant bending and twisting of the chassis or body, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
