The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In certain situations, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to loads up to three times greater than the other. This can lead to significant chassis twisting or body deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
