The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of weight to one side of the vehicle can result in up to three times more force being transferred than to the other side. This causes significant chassis flex or deformation and torsion of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
