The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to loads up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex or body deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
