During fast driving, heavy braking and acceleration, the vehicle’s chassis is subjected to significant loads. These loads are mainly caused by the transfer of the body’s mass when driving through corners.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can result in considerable twisting and bending of the chassis or body shell, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis twisting when cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer. The reinforcement helps increase the stiffness of the lower section of the chassis and reduce its deformation.
