The car body is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass when cornering quickly, braking hard or accelerating.
When cornering, the transfer of mass can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in high loads, body flex and chassis twisting, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis flex and twisting when cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
