The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in considerable chassis flex, body deformation and torsional movement, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
