The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant bending, deformation and twisting of the chassis, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
