The car’s body is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This results in greater deformation and chassis flex, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Body deformation and chassis flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
