The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving, particularly due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can cause considerable chassis flexing or deformation and torsional twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
