The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident when the weight of the body is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or sharp acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to loads up to 3 times greater than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, bodywork deformation and torsional movement, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Bodywork deformation and chassis flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
