The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of the vehicle body’s mass during fast cornering, hard braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in considerable chassis flex, body deformation and torsional twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
