The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In certain situations, weight transfer while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times more force than the other. This causes significant deformation and flexing of the chassis or body, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
