The vehicle body is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can cause significant bending, deformation and twisting of the body, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
