The vehicle chassis is among the parts subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. These loads are mainly caused by the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking and sudden acceleration.
When cornering, the load on one side of the vehicle can be up to three times greater than on the other. This causes the chassis to twist and bend, or the bodywork to deform, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
