A car’s chassis is one of the most heavily loaded parts of the vehicle, as it is strongly affected by bodyweight transfer during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to experience up to three times more load than the other. This causes significant bending, deformation and twisting of the chassis, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
