The vehicle chassis is the part exposed to the greatest loads during driving. These loads are mainly caused by the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of mass can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This causes major deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
