The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When weight is transferred through a corner, one side of the vehicle can be subjected to a force up to 3 times greater than the other. This causes significant bending and twisting of the chassis, or deformation of the bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
