The car’s chassis is one of the most heavily loaded parts of the vehicle, as it transfers large forces caused by the movement of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This can lead to significant chassis flex and body deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
