The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes significant chassis flexing, or deformation and torsional twisting of the body, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause unwanted driving characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
