A car’s chassis is the part of the vehicle most exposed to loads caused by driving. This is particularly evident when the body transfers weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex as well as body deformation and twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
