A car’s chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
