The car chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When mass is transferred in corners, one side of the vehicle can be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes considerable chassis flexing or deformation and torsional twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting in corners can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
