The vehicle’s chassis is the part of the vehicle that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. The transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration places particular stress on it.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant chassis flex, deformation and torsional body twisting, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
