The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, hard braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the transfer of weight can cause up to three times more force to occur on one side of the vehicle than on the other. This causes significant chassis flex or deformation and torsional body twisting, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
