The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads as a result of driving. This is particularly evident when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
